Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is by providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our community, and ourselves. The Jefferson County Optimist Club is dedicated to nurturing the potential of young people and enhancing community spirit. We envision a community where every child has the opportunity to achieve their dreams and where collective efforts lead to a better tomorrow.

Kolton Waller, age 12, and Logan Selby, age 6, each won Trek 8-speed bicycles at the Fishing Derby!

We called and you answered! We stuffed and delivered over 3 dozen backpacks full of great back to school supplies appropriate for children in area Head Start programs. These were delivered to the neediest of the needy. THANK YOU to everyone that supported this call to action!

It's That Time of Year!
Donating back-to-school items for children in Head Start programs helps young learners begin the year prepared, confident, and included. Supplies like backpacks, crayons, notebooks, tissues, and hygiene items ease the financial burden on families and help teachers focus on learning. These donations also show children and families that their community supports them and believes in their success. Click the button to make a monetary donation.
Jefferson County Optimist Club members are everywhere! Here are President Joe Hatfield, Board Member Dan Abts, and Secretary/Treasurer Mary Hatfield assisting at the East Missouri Optimist District Junior Golf Tournament! For more information about the golf tournament, click HERE.
Who’s behind the camera? Mary Hatfield!
We are excited to teach youth all about fishing! Another fun way to expand our partnership with the Arnold Parks and Recreation Department!
OUR 2026 BOWLING TOURNAMENT WAS SUCH A SUCCESS!

Our Christmas parties for children in Head Start programs looked a little different this year. The classes were consolidated into just 1 school and the party was a Winter Party. We did get to read to 1 class and provided mittens, a book, and a toy to over 40 children!
Fishing Derby was a Splash!
So glad we partner with the City of Arnold Parks & Recreation Department for this event! We had a record 161 children participate this year! It was so heartwarming to see parents spending quality time with their children outdoors aways from all of their screens, enjoying nature.
The attendance prizes were 2 very nice Trex bicycles. Additionally, we gave away fishing poles and tackle boxes. The top 3 winners in each age category received fishing poles.
The St. Louis Long Beards provided a few of the fishing poles we gave away.
